I am looking for current statistics for project failures in SME businesses in the USA, split by business sector and reasons for failure. I need the information to support my capstone project on project failure due to lack of project governance (Topic: Lack of Project Governance Standards, A Cause for Project Failure in SME Businesses in the USA). I am trying to narrow the study to an industry or business sector, eg Small to Medium Banks, Regional Banks, Credit Unions, etc.

I do not have statistics ready to send you, yet, but am interested in your research. A component of my research involves comparing success (rather than failure) rates to project-team effective diversity. Effective diversity is simple diversity corrected for toxic group dynamics (e.g., polarization). I plan to use a survey of project managers to collect useful statistics.

I have little experience in banks and financial services, but do have both personal experiences and some useable data for manufacturing companies if you are interested. I have been Manger, commercial development, director Venture Development, VP Commercial Development and Sr. VP Corporate Development at three different Small to mid ( $800 Million) companies as well as Faculty and Staff at UMass Innovation Institute.
