I am writing a research proposal on ''Assessing academic staff training and development(In-service) in HEIs''. Can anyone recommend a resource for any up-to-date model/framework for L & D in an organizational context/Higher education institutes that would support my paper? Any suggestion is welcome, thanks!
You may want to look at Informal Learning. Eraut's (2004) work is a start
- Eraut*, M. (2004). Informal learning in the workplace. Studies in continuing education, 26(2), 247-273.
Also Watkins and Marsick (1999) also had some good foundational research/modelling
- Marsick, V. J., & Watkins, K. E. (1990). Informal and incidental learning in the workplace.
Also Schon's (1983) work on the Reflective Practitioner is also goo
- Schön, D. A. (1983). The reflective practitioner: How professionals think in action (Vol. 5126). Basic books.
All three indirectly address key tenets of workplace learning research where most learning is not formalised but instead occur during informal discussions on and/or off the job.

In my research, I have found that a significant part of such training should address teaching faculty of how to accommodate for the diverse cultural and international backgrounds of their HE students. As such, I would suggest that your framework take into consideration the whole issue of "diversity" seriously. My specific intention is to asses the policy, practices and any challenge associated with the Professional training and development for academic staff in higher education institutions. I would consider adding the term "education" to "training." These two terms signal different objectives, even though degrees of overlap are inevitable. I don't know how much groundwork you've already done for your proposal, but judging from your follow-up comment, you probably want to consider the way policy drives (or is driven by) the intended vs. actual outcomes of a given professional development program...does that sound right? If so, it would likely be extremely useful to use an outcomes logic model. The W.K. Kellogg foundation has a really easy-to-read guidebook about logic models in general; refer to the link I added to this response.
