In my view, there is no problem to limit your research in a specific geographical area. I suggest to contact one of the SMEs and request the data you need. Any SME takes a register of what it´s doing. That is the way to identify “how they do it”. Your thesis must propose “how they should do it”. Kind regards,

If the geographical area is limited, I do think that a comparative case study of private family SMEs could pave a good methodical road. I am sure that you will identify specific economic patterns, which may be typical for the Greek economy, with respect to cultural factors ('firm learning'), life-style and monetary management.

Family firms in Greece are a great topic to examine. Most companies are family-owned, and it is exciting to research their characteristics and contribution to the local economy.

If in Greece there is a division by regions recognized from an economic and social point of view, then I think it is a very good choice.

Many countries have problems with the lack of databases of these businesses (private family SMEs).

I consider that the research methods chosen by you: the survey and the interviews, are very good.

And regarding corporate governance, I would rather recommend the social involvement of these businesses.

You can distribute the data through ''electronic link'' among the Family SME. You can focus on different patterns in the business with the transferring to the business to the next generation in the family. And also you can identify whether the business started as a "Necessity Driven Entrepreneurship" or Opportunity-driven entrepreneurship" and identify the difference economic patterns in the Family SME.

Based on the objective of your study, it might be necessary to use a tested survey instrument among Family SMEs in greece. If it is necessary the survey can be translated following Brislin recommendation. Also kindly check World and other institutional databases perhaps you might find some secondary data.
