Preliminary conditions to select a green source for the synthesis of carbon dots?

I am trying to synthesize carbon dots from garlic extract. It's showing good fluorescence under Uv lamp prior any heating but after reflux fluorescence is decreasing. what does this indicate and what would be the best technique for the synthesis of carbon dot from green source?

I dont have an answer for you in term of which is the best technique, but the decrease of fluorescence can be due to the change of surrounding environment of the dot. So it means the dots are not happy with the medium you are using to store or to wash/recover. You can think about this as a good indicator for modification. Try to use the similar or the same of solvent you use to synthesise
