I'm in my final year of Civil engineering. So I am doing a project on sinking of coastal cities.
I got the the topic idea from city Jakarta which is sinking every year by 15 cm(aprox.) due to excessive ground water penetration. Since I stay in India(Mumbai) its not possible for me to to go there and research and hence it becomes a case study.
But i searched that some of the cities in india also are sinking mostly due to climate change. I'm not able to get a practical approach on this topic which makes it case study.
So can any of you could suggest a practical approach towards this topic or any research papers?

Dear Divyata Thakare , this is an interesting and relevant topic. In your question you suggest "... some of the cities in india also are sinking mostly due to climate change". Not climate change, but human activity (use of natural resources) drives land subsidence, resulting in sinking cities. In the Deltares at al. publication one the major cities is missing: Mexico City. It's missing because Mexico City isn't a coastal city. It is a city 2,000 m above sea level. Yet it's built in a former Inca lake; Lake Texcoco. I think the solutions to find alternative water resources other than ground water, are more interesting than quantifying land subsidence for example. And find solutions that are coherent with other (urban) water challenges as well.

The description of city sinking often gives people an impression that those cities are sinking in a linear way. I think it might be useful to treat this topic in a non-linear way. For example, given the factors that cause city sinking, will they stop or become slower some time in the future? Can some technology help to restore those factors?
