Is there any other examples of PU corroding other metals like Steel or Al?
Actually No, Because PU acts like effective coating that prevents rust on metallic surface as it form ultra thick film on the surface, however it gives adverse results when it comes to exposing the surfaces in outdoor application for a long term due to the fact that prolong exposure makes it less durable and coating will tarnish limits its usage. Hence better to know the specific operation zone that PU coating associated with base metal.
Der all, in the mentionned article, it is the type of polyurethane that was not the best choice. Ester hydrolysis of adipate to adipic acid is behind the metal corrosion. So, an anticorrosion grade PU is the solution. Many advencements are nowdays possible, self-healing long-term PU protective coatings are at top choices. My Regards
