Political instability, conflicts and absolute ruler are the major reasons for downturn in business and economic activities in Africa; especially in the Horn of Africa. What would be your view?
I think this is a global problem. People who gnaw out the right to be called elite in society do not understand that either everyone or no one will play by the rules that they need most to maintain their position.
A very good book on these subjects is "Why nation´s fail", by Acemoglu and Robinson. There you´ll find that not all the african countries face economic and political problems, it also explains why some, like Congo, do not make any progress in years.
Dear Vitaly Ivanov, really thank you for your interesting view
in the discourse. Especially, on the point about "....Elite in the society ...." needs an in-depth research to figure out the real problems in nations, mostly in Africa.
Dear Gustavo Concari, Thank you for your citation and indicating the problem areas. Sure the fascinating book called "Why nation´s fail", by Acemoglu and Robinson explored the issue well, however, as an African nations who really facing these challenges know well about the issues as not all facing the problem.
Mostly the politics play the game and would deteriorate the entire political-economic system, as stated Congo can be an example with so many fighting due to ample resources 'vis-a-vis economy domination empowers to absolute ruling system.
In this regard, political intervention, specifically by western countries shall not be disregarded and it may seek an extensive research by prospective scholars??? Thanks again!!
From all indications, I see poverty and high level of illetracy rate as the major bane of progress in Africa. This is as a result of poor leadership and systemic corruption. However, a more worrisome factor is neo-colonisation by the Western world which has pertually hindered business and economic activities to flourish.
Very good insight from the perspective of poor leadership to systematically build corruption and snatching the poor nation resources. The other form of Neo-colonization in this 21st century is also a big hassle that remains a daunting challenge for generations and seek an ideological revolution in Africa.
