I am undertaking a study on Corporate Real Estate Management and will like to find out some of the theories that underlie it (CREM) and possible sources for further reading.
Corporate Real Estate Management ("CREM") is really a practice, an applied science, concerning itself with the management of real estate of non-property companies i.e. companies and organizations whose core business lies outside of Real Estate and Facility Management ("REFM") and which use real estate as a support resouce for their business.
A good source to begin will be the dominant global assosiation for CREM and its practitioners, CoreNet Global /www.corenetglobal.org, There you will find a lot, e.g. a recent research report on CREM in Africa.
As books go, I am not aware of any truly authoritative or standard textbook. Many books covering Facility Management also cover CREM.
Eric, maybe you want to browse a bit and go through the CoreNet Global website (I am a board member of CoreNet Global's Central Europe chapter), then feel free to call on me again with more concrete research questions.
Vanessa, thank you for the publication references in your contribution! I know Peter Linneman, of course, but I had not been aware that Andreas Pfnuer has published together with him (in English)!
