Please provide me with the operational definition of Resilience, Climate Resilience. What are the methodology and parameters to be taken into account for evaluating the resilience of fishers towards climate change, natural disasters and other similar and presently prevailing phenomena. Please provide me with suitable references too. Can the parameters be assessed based on evaluating the vulnerability of the fishers toward that external stimulus and reciprocating the value? Can we correlate impact of climate and natural disaster on a resource as well as the resource use pattern of the fishers with their resilient ability?
There is no perfect methodology, but maybe the following considerations can help to bring you forward:
For your research it will be essential to fully understand the livelihood systems of the fishing population and possible risks, stresses, seasonality and threats. This should e known irrespective of climate change. The next step would be to figiure out how climate change has an impact on already extering challenges. I have done research on livelihoods of fisherpeople before the notion of climate change was discussed widely (some articles you can find on RG). Later it became evident that climate change not (only) create new challenges, but increases the existing ones. One important aspect was seasonality (e.g. during monsoon season and cyclone season of southern India fisherpeople often have little income an dneed to bridge these times through alternative employment, savings, informal saving schemes, social capital, etc, which all contributed to resilience. These institutions are under pressure, not only because of climate change, and this has negative impacts on fisher-people. Another important aspect has been the entry of mechanized fisheries and the competition between artisianal fisher people and mechanized. This has tremendous impacts on the livelihoods of the former group, which of course would have severe further implications because of climate change
- Thank you Sir.. Can we make an approach with the guided SLA framework to assess their livelihood and then find out the appreciate indices refering to Climate change or borne due to it? But how the reform that has been relevant due the Climate change over a period from very past ( the point from where this climate change studies are relevent) as well as their adaptations wrt climate change ( resilience is meant to be to adopt as well as anew) can been addressed? And how can I correlate the impact of climate change on a resource to its impact on the resource depended users? Please suggest me valuable resource in this regard for review..
