This is for the purposes of getting young people especially women to be enticed to do research projects in Sciences for the year 2018
For men and women to be enticed into research projects they need to be educated in research. In Tanzania this will only happen through universities and educational institutions. But there is good support for women in science, and research in general. The Government of Tanzania supports student research projects in Bachelor and Master level with enough money to conduct the research. And countries from all over the world e.g. Sweden, Japan, UK, USA, Denmark, support research students in Tanzania, including Tanzanian students. Also China is supporting 100 PhDs a year from Tanzania. All these programs support women, preferentially so as to get to equity. Industrial research is being funded especially by the mining companies. I think it is like that in Kenya too. Or not?
Just to add a thought. One of the most effective ways to fund students, that we have found at MUHAS, is for the faculty member to write a research proposal with a donor agency. The faculty is the PI, but much of the research process itself can be conducted by Master and PhD students as part of their training. The funding for them to do that is embedded in the proposal.
