We are looking at converting Bareland/ Marginal Land to Renewable Energy, the classification performed and presented, shows that Sokoto State (the study area) had about 1,603,218 hectares of Bareland to support photovoltaic (PV) solar installation, how do we now know the number of Megawatts of electricity such hectares can produce.

A conservative estimation of the capacity of the whole area of 1,6 million hectars, considering only 5% left for circulation (what is theoretical, and does not make much sense in terms of ecology), using monocrystalline PV is of an installed power of 3,2 billions of kW, and an energy output of 3,5 to 5,1 billions of MWh per year.
Edwin has given very appropriate answer. Of-course there are few things like maintenance, sudden unusual change in climatic condition, drop in efficiency and physical damages in incontrollable situations will have some negative impact on power generation but insignificant. Simulation based on software will give you an estimation very closer to what will be the actual generation as explained by Edwin.
On the eolic plant I have develop and install, I had use 140 kw/Ha, which means 7,2 m2/Ha, similar as Alok reply

It totally depends on the strength of solar radiation and the potential impedance, panel sizes, those capacities and efficiencies.
My advice is to first collect the solar radiation comes to the particular area, select solar panel size and get those performance from the respective manufacture. Then, you can easily estimate the harvesting capacity per acres.
