Today I found 68 synonyms of the plant Eclipta prostrata (L)L. There may be far more synonyms for some other plants. Previously, physical characters of different plant parts were used as the basis of plant nomenclature. Genetic characters are added now a days. Some other characters may develop in future for use in plant nomenclature.

Do you think it is easy to identify and understand a plant by its scientific name by any person other than plant taxonomists if such huge number of synonyms are used in different texts?

What may be the possible ways to control such continuous increase of plant synonyms?
