How to apply metabolomics for research of plant science especially in fragrance studies? Can anyone outline the steps of plant metabolomics properly and easy to be understood?
in metabolomics, we are generally concerned with metabolic profiles of the organism in question. Metabolomic study is a big hit in plant sciences because plants produce a repertoire of secondary metabolites which confer them various abilities like disease curing, defence etc., plant fragrance is also due to these metabolites. Metabolomics involves more of chemistry, you can analyze the metabolome using techniques like GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, UPLC which can help you in the extraction and evaluation of the metabolites and give you a deep inside into the plant metabolites present. FT-IR and NMR studies can be used for the identification of the compounds extracted. A simple, but worth mentioning technique here is column chromatogrphy for extraction of plant compounds.
