I strongly agree. That would be a main milestone in the development of the current academic publishing model to be a fair one. It is ridiculous, to say the least, that private publishers make profits for research that was funded by public and government funds! Gladly this is already a requirement for all research done by funds granted by the US National Institute of Health and other main funding agencies.
Don’t worry! It only said, “scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants provided by participating national and European research councils and funding bodies, must be published in compliant OA Journals or on compliant OA Platforms”. That means, fees for publishing in OA journals are inherent in the funds from public grants! Others will continue to publish through the regular channels.
