I support open science, the DORA declaration, and the main goals of Plan S.
I however don't get why cOAlition S promotes the CC-BY licence. As I see it, it is simply begging for predatory publishers cutting and pasting, making "academic books" etc. and trying to sell published papers anew to naïve and unexperienced byers. That is not good for science.
Similarly it opens up for using a scientists work in a context she/he is not comfortable with from a scientific point of view, and thus associating him/her with thoughts and ideas etc. he/she does not want to be associated with. That attacs academic freedom and is not good for science either.
The best licence for science, as I see it, would be CC BY-NC-ND. The necessary need for being able to use/change the results modify a paper should be covered in quoting and citing and building on as has allways been done in science, and it prevents attempts of predation.
Is there something I am missing here?
