I am trying to model a masonry building over a steel beam to simulate the soil settlement profile, when the model is completed the analysis does not converge effectively (for a total of 11mm a the beam edge I can only converge until 0.5mm). I think this is due to the frame-area connection, so I have tried to use springs. My question is, what type of spring I should use to connect the steel beam to the area shell element (2D model) with a high compression value but no tension so that the structure has better response to the settlement and considering soil-structure interaction.
