What is the size (in terms of power) of the wind and the solar PV that you had designed for your hybrid power system. And so far how had it perform?
I am going to do a system to supply 2.5 kW for a set of loads including light bulbs, fans and computers. And may be some be later some kind of small battery charging system (for mobile phone battery charging). The loads represent a small community of two families.
As of now I am doing a proof of concept for the system, especially to prove the control system with a 0.5 kW loads. As of now I planned a 400 W wind turbine and 400 W solar PV.

We are currently at the design stage. Our hybrid system is expect to generate power of 2 KW. At the UTP solar site we already have 1 kW installed PV. However, the wind conditions are not favorable here in UTP Malaysia. The average wind speed is less than 3 m/s. So we plan to use a special design of wind turbine that is based on Savonius rotor.
In nut shell our system is expected to contain 1 kW PV, 200 Watt Wind and remaining 800 watt from Hydro.

Micro windturbines are expensive per kW installed, PV is cheaper. So it is economically reasonable to overstaff a small microgrid with PV and batteries to survive the night and a few dim days with the money you would spend on a microturbine.
If it is a large microgrid, then of course large windturbines in the range of several 100 kW to a few MW are the economical better solution. You like to add nevertheless PV, as often sun is shining and almost no wind is blowing and vice versa. In this case you need less EES if you balance wind an PV installation. Look at the Fourier transform of the respective harvest curves.
Currently, modern heuristic optimisation techniques have received increasing attention in various areas of power systems. Various controllers, especially adaptive controllers, can provide the most effective control strategies for Micro Grids based on generation and load profiles.
My suggestion is that, The Backtracking search algorithm BSA-based performance optimisation of Micro grid with green plug-energy economizer GP-EE is suited for an effective and enhanced power quality, improved power factor, and stabilized the buses voltage, and mitigated the harmonic distortion.
