I want to know what is the penetration depth of electromagnetic radiation in remote sensing satellites such as Aster, Hyperion or ETM
so how it could influence the interpretation of image processing results of these images
accordingly, how much is the reliability of the maps extracted from processing these images in mineral exploration tasks about the underlied deposits
could they be representative enough or until which dept if the resource is existed, these methods are useful
I can’t find any source that represent required information

Hello Solmaz Babakan,
Looking at the sensors you have mentioned, the variation of the depth of penetration of their electromagnetic (EM) radiations may not be significant. However, since you are interested in working with the mineral exploration, the hyperspectral sensor Hyperion may outperform the other two.
The 242 narrow bands of Hyperion, whose width is 10nm, will help you in finding the unique spectral signatures of the minerals and help in its exploration. You can refer to the Spectra Reflectance Libraries of the minerals that have been created using rigorous imaging spectroscopy and, according to that, classify the minerals in your area of interest.
Please note that the selection of the sensor also depends upon the mineral you are trying to explore since few minerals spectral signatures will be unique only between a narrow width of the EM spectrum. Hence choose the sensor wisely based on its wavelength range, the number of bands, the width of the spectral bands, and minerals to be explored.

Penetration depth is a measure of how deep light or any electromagnetic radiation can penetrate into a material. It is defined as the depth at which the intensity of the radiation inside the material falls to 1/e (about 37%) of its original value at (or more properly, just beneath) the surface.
When electromagnetic radiation is incident on the surface of a material, it may be (partly) reflected from that surface and there will be a field containing energy transmitted into the material. This electromagnetic field interacts with the atoms and electrons inside the material. Depending on the nature of the material, the electromagnetic field might travel very far into the material, or may die out very quickly.
