May be depend on your application. PEG 400, PEG 1000, and PEG 4000 are belong to the same class of compounds with different size/length.

Depends on its application to yours prescribed conversion. Study the composition of different PEG's (All will have similar basic structure so may be useful) and then go for performing the reaction.
