I am sure that Pakistan has enough resources whether mineral resources, agricultural resources, industrial resources, labour resources or cultural resources and infrastructure to "sustainably" develop along the lines of some of the fastest growing developing countries including some of the fastest growing Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia or some of the CIS countries. However, since too much concentration of policy on minerals can lead to fundamentalism or too much nationalism , I think Pakistan should develop with the development of such well developed stock exchanges like the Karachi Stock Exchange and concentrate on food security for its people. Keynesian policies focussed on the multiplier will help Pakistan create adequate financial and monetary reserves. You can take a look at my PhD thesis derived monograph on "Bounded Rationality and Incomplete Financial Markets" on www.researchgate.net/profile/Soumitra_Mallick. This monograph is widely read and is also being implemented in India and other Emerging Market countries and within the Commonwealth and to some extent the US too, particularly because it provides two alternatives to economic policy making both of which when integrated along the balanced path makes the economies sustainable in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and of course Economics and other social sciences. It is a holistic model with integration by systems of scientific fields.

PAKISTAN is a country endowed with rich mineral resources. The articles below seem to show that precious metals, petroleum, etc. could be found throughout the country. However, with a nominal GDP of $1,629 ($5,374 PPP adjusted), the country may be vulnerable to outside and powerful countries with resources poor competing for influence and access to natural resources. With careful development policy, Pakistan could be a significant player in the region.
