If you are looking for the p-value related to the measure of association between gender and occupation status then I would suggest running a chi-squared test, and obtain the p-value for this. (A t-test would not be appropriate as you have categorical data).

I may have misunderstood your original question, but you did mention gender and occupation.

P-values relate to statistical tests, measures of correlation or association. I am not sure what you would be testing with the 'male and female' numbers alone.
