Historicallly, in the fist times of christianity, it were to main doctrines : "adoptianism" of Arius (the Father is superior to the Son Jesus); the "niceism" or "omousios"(the Father and the Son are equals). It is a complex theme, because the answers were diferent along the centurys, theologians and territorys.

How much do you know about Christianity? Have you every read the Gospels? The simple answer to your question is that Jesus Himself claimed to be God -- and proved it. He Himself refers to "the Father" and calls Himself the "Son". This not only refers to His Incarnation (when He took on a human nature in the womb of the Virgin Mary without a human father), but also to the eternal relationships within the Trinity (one God -- three Persons). There are some very deep mysteries here.

How is Christ God?

1) He claims to be God. “Before Abraham was, I am.”

2) His miracles demonstrates that he has authority over sickness, demonic hosts, and death.

3) His resurrection shows that he is victorious over sin, death, and Satan.

As for the Holy Trinity. These anthropomorphic descriptions describe how the persons relate to one another. We confess, and rightly so, the Athanasian creed which describes it for us.

Bradley Autry quoting the Athanasian Creed doesn’t answer the question. The Athanasian Creed gets first prize for being confusing in practically every clause.

For example as pointed out by Faith Bays the Son was begotten by the Holy Spirit according to the Bible yet the Athanasian Creed states the Son was begotten of the Father alone (clause 22) despite that the Father and Holy Spirit are separate components of the Trinity.

Nor was the Athanasian Creed authored by the apostles, an official church council nor even Athanasius himself. Its origin is unknown except that it appears to have been anonymously authored within the Roman Catholic church several centuries after the New Testament was written (Krueger 1976).

Yet despite the inbuilt admission that the Trinity is “incomprehensible” (clause 12) it audaciously mandates wholehearted belief “without doubt” accompanied by the threat of perishing eternally if you don't believe it (clauses 2 & 44).

The uncritical acceptance of this absurdity across both Catholic and Protestant Christianity is an own goal in any debate against agnosticism or atheism.

Students of the Hebrew language know that the phrase translated "son of" and children of" ( בני = benay) is used many times in the Hebrew Bible and other Jewish writings, to mean:"of the lineage of" or "descended from" - i.e. NOT the "biological child of" - and by implication, sometimes, even when there is no biological lineage, "belonging to" the tribe or nation of ... .

Greek translators and those who tried to communicate the Christian message in Greek and Latin (also other languages, including English) did not understand that - nor did those who gathered in the Council of Nicaea (325 AD/CE).

From this perspective, when we speak of Jesus as the son of God, we are meaning that he is a member of that which is named "Yahweh."

Further, this way of understanding who Jesus is emerged in a cultural context in which individuals obtain their identity from the community of which they are a part.

Given this background, when we speak of Jesus as the "son of God" we mean that "his nature is godly" - and, at the same time, we know that He was a human being, like us.

So this is the ground of my belief that Jesus is God and about how he is God.
