I am working on Mg-based metal matrix composites. I added two different types(A&B) with a suitable percentage(1%,2%,3% and 0.5%,1%,1.5%) of ceramics separately using DOE and tested. Now I want to mix both ceramics in the base metal to make hybrid composites. but, I don't know what percentage of both ceramics and on what basis they are to be taken?. Please provide your valuable guidance.
Hello Dinesh, as per my understanding, to produce an hybrid composite, first you should have effect of individual reinforcements. If you have optimized the individual, you may get the idea about maxima and minima concentrations for same. If you plan hybrid composites using same reinforcements; you have to again find out the optimum concentration depending on your desirable output (which properties you wish to improve). I think, it may or may not give you desirable outputs. All the best.

First fix the total number of volume fraction of A and B. Say A+B= X. Vary A from 0 to X which means B varies from X to 0. Choose intermediate points evenly. Assume X is 10. Some combinations can be (0,10), (2.5,7.5), (5,5), (7.5,2.5) and (10,0). This kind of design will help to single out the effect of a single reinforcement individually as well as hybrid combination.

the properties which you will get, depend on how the matrix and reinforcements were bonded together. So go ahead and try 3% to 10% initially, and based on the EDX, SEM results, Try some suitable % of reinforcements
