I would like to follow this. If they have a transcription feature I will be looking into it. I found some vids on youtube and it seems like it has been around for a while. When I used Nvivo in 2016, I was told it does not transcribe. I was also told it would write up chapter 4 for you, which was an untruth.
From what I see, they promise "90% accuracy" which might sound high, but considering that the average sentence is 10-12 words long, this means one error per sentence. That amounts to a lot of time spent in correction.
Laverne A. Davis, I think NVivo recently announced it as a new feature. Perhaps the videos you saw on YouTube were on how to transcribe directly to NVivo from your source (but writing the full transcription yourself).
David L Morgan , 90% would still be better than what I experienced when I paid for a professional transcriber for a project a few years ago. I usually transcribe my interviews myself, but I did ask for transcription a few times and ended up spending more time correcting than I would transcribing. I haven't encountered anyone who has tried this new NVivo feature yet but would be lovely to hear some feedback. Let me know if you ever try it.
I would be interested to hear about any experiences with it also. I just purchased the newest version of NVivo and saw that this was a feature. I'm currently doing a mixed methods study and we are using a professional transcriptionist; it would be nice to know if this were a viable and potentially less costly method.
