"Can novel materials be invented by mixing polymers with nanoparticles?" indeed they can, Suhas. I would rather think of it as "mixing nanoparticles with polymers". I have a paper on Research Gate presented in Saudi Arabia on what I called at that time (2004) "an emerging class of materials", including a brief history since their initial development by Toyota in the 1980's. Your question can further be developed "can commercially useful materials be invented by ..." and then we have few answers. Interesting materials, for sure, new properties, but do they have value in use? Not too many so far, but there are many people working on this topic.

I read the articles that you shared with us (thank you!), and I think they confirm my statement / observation, that there is a lot of novel and interesting work being done, (and good science) - but I failed to see even a hint of the application / commercial use of the mixtures that you invented or researched. This is what is missing on these polymer nano composites. Please tell me if I am wrong.

Yes, there have been many works in this area like nano-size reinforcement for plastics such as carbon nano tube (CNT) or many types of ceramic whiskers. However most of them have not been commercially successful due to less cost performance balance.
Recently intensive efforts have been paid to cellurose nano fiber (CNF) especially in Japan, which is cost-competitive, they say. It may be worth paying attention to it for a while.
