I feel , best method is the use of neutron moisture probe in coarse textured soil to determine the soil moisture non-destructively . But , same neutron moisture does not give so good results at lower soil moisture levels in clay textured soils , because of the cracking , with the result , the column of soil around the moisture tube becomes irregular in contact area .
