Keeping up with our "busy" lifestyle we more and more order products and services off the internet. Sometimes such products may come from other countries, some of which are half a globe far away (e.g., China). Packaging these products come in are primarily made of board and paper. Are there any estimations on the amounts of such packging ending up in e.g., Europe?

The only detailed estimations I have found about the actual volume of paper and board coming with traded goods (not only boxes but also manuals, etc.) are from RISI. Some of these results were were presented in two conferences in Madrid by H. Zhao in 2012 and 2014. The drawback of these data is that only world volumes are given (around 22 million tons went overseas from China) and specific values for Europe are not given. Maybe in other conferences or presentations from RISI the data are, if not, you could make some reasonable assumption of the European share of these 22 million tons.

Thank you for your help. I would say the general lack of data makes it rather controversial question and the estimates may range. Thank you for the documents provided, I will have a closer look and come up with better-documented estimates for my work.
