You can find the coordinates for Caucasian localities (Sochi area) in my paper 2017 in Ent. Rev. I also found CJB in Freiburg, Mullheim (S W Germany) and Lausanne (Swiss). Unfortunately I do not have any coordinates or exact locality - sorry, Adrian! I have only my own request: could at last somebody explain me what is the reason of the obstinate usage of totally enigmatic and evidently nomenclaturally unavailable (see the details in the paper attached below) name Lamprodila Anon. ["Motsch."] rather than well established, unambiguous and perfectly valid Ovalisia Kerr. (or, if you consider them separate genera, Scintillatrix Obb., Palmar Schaef. &c.). I hope this is not some CIA or KGB intrigue, but - leaving a joke aside - the causes of this bizarre preference seem to be rather not scientific, as despite my repeated requests and criticisms nobody has even tried to provide some justification or to "falsify" my arguments!

I have a colleague at my institute, which can models the niche of the species we need. That means, we know as many localities with precise coordinates and the script can interpret the average climatic and other conditions which we think it is the niche for this species, then it can emulate where the species can spread in the future, or where it exists, even if not yet recorded. That's why we need coordinates.

Now I know you study the Worldwide Buprestids, so I have not the expertise to analyse critically the nomenclature. I am afraid, with the new molecular taxonomy, which dramatically separates the taxa as we know, the new nomenclature to be like in viruses, like "T23044HNH4" or likewise. I wish to not live to get these times.

"I have not the expertise to analyse critically the nomenclature" - sorry, you cannot avoid it: each time when you choose a name in your publication, you do make a statement about nomenclature - you only can do it critically or uncritically. And being a biologist (especially a taxonomist!), you must have the expertise to do it critically: it does not need to be more than superficially acquainted with the nomenclatural rules and procedures to realize that a "by the way" note that "Madame E. Gaschkevitch" sent from her trip on Amur "une magnifique Lamprodila (Lampra) virgata" is not a valid introduction of a new genus-name in zoology, and such name would not be available even if none of the other circumstances mentioned in my paper [effective anonymity, conflicting evidence as to the date of publication, uncertainty as to the author's intentions (the interpretation presented by Kubáń being just the least probable!), neglection of the name by all - including the alleged author, Motschulsky! - other students, &c., &c., &c.: virtually nothing is even approximately clear with "Lamprodila"!] would have occurred - but thed did occur! Introduction and continuous application of such nebulous names brings (you are right: evidently uncritically! - but this is by no means extenuating circumstance!) very dangerous chaos, and a serious zoologist cannot avoid responsibility by hiding him/herself beyond alleged "lack of expertise"!

I agree with you, I think I was misuderstood, but to have a critical expertise about the nomenclature, I should see at least 60-70% of every genera in the upper category I have in study (tribe, subtribe, subfamily). In my case, it is just the peak of the iceberg. How I study an iceberg after its peak of the peak? All I can do is to follow the specialists and to keep my names updated. I see new names, I have to adopt them, I cannot "guess" what is right or not. BTW, when I wrote the catalogue and the guide, in the same year, the genus name was changed 3 times. Ovalisia → Scintillatrix → Lamprodila. Yes, it was chaos, but what could I do? I am in your school, but I am afraid our era is about to it's dawn.

Dear László Mezőfi. Here, in my town they keep attacking only Thuja occidentalis and only old and tall trees (5-7m). I have observed, the big attacks are in the private areas, where the trees are almost abandoned (water only by the rain). In the public gardens, how is the Botanical Garden, where water is sprinkled on every summer morning, I have not seen any attack. The buprestids larvae live in a very fragile equilibrium with the fungi. They need fungi to decompose the cellulosis, but the overdeveloped fungi can kill and consume the larva. That's why, the females avoid to lay eggs on the humid parts of the plants. Just sprinke the trees, I think not need any chemical treatment.

The genus name was not changed, only three different opinions as to the correct name have been published, of which you have chosen that proposed by Kubáń! Later another (detailly argumented!) opinion (mine) has been published, but this you for some reasons rejected!

"I am afraid our era is about to it's dawn" - what do you mean? Of course my era is certainly "about to it's dawn" (I am 81 years old, so there is not much left) but what has it to do with the correct name of Ovalisia Kerr.?

You are a good specialist, and I did not reject your opinions. I was just in a rush and I used the last name published in that time.

And when I said about our era, I referred about a current, not about any person. I included myself in "our era". However I live, I will defend this nomenclature and the morphological taxonomy, when the genetics are used just to light a spotlight in the dark. But I am not on the new current where the molecular is considered 100% a holly grail.

Lamprodila / Ovalisia festiva is not yet recorded for Latvia and Estonia.

Unless Latvia and Estonia not import seedlings of Thuja. Anyway, from my nowaday observations, the daily sprinkling water on the trees in the summer days is a good protection. The damaged trees are located only in private areas where they think the rain is enough to water them. No attack occurs in the parks or public gardens.

In Germany, 20 years ago, this species was a real rarity, known only from 2 or 3 localities in Baden-Württemberg, see Brechtel & Kostenbader. Since some years it seems to be a pest of garden thujas in southern Palatinate, surroundings of Germersheim, Landau. See article of Niehuis. Seems to be imported. Maybe an impact of climate change.

Thank you all again. Meanwhile there are data in gbif now. They weren't added when I started this discussion. In Romania the same. There were less than 10 specimens collected before this invasion.
