Keeping secrets can be hard work and also harmful to your health. More and more sociological and psychological studies reaffirm this. As an interesting study from Columbia University shows, it is necessary to constantly evaluate what can and cannot be said, or how to do it, in front of who or if someone might suspect. There is also the worry of making the mistake of releasing it due to carelessness. Recursive thinking about the secret consumes an immense amount of energy, as does the self-evaluation that often comes at the cost of our self-esteem.
