difference between Single phase or phase pure material and single crystal
Single phase or pure phase powder means that only one compound is formed with specific crystal structure and without any other compounds, to check its purity (single phase) we use powder XRD or other diffraction techniques. To prepare single crystal we use single crystal growth methods such as cooling a melted mixture...and we can get single crystals with various sizes depending on the growth technique used. For the single crystal structure determination, we often use Single crystal based X- ray diffraction.
The crystal is a solid material whose constituent atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions. The crystal growth produces a crystalline solid, whose atoms or molecules,are typically close packed, with fixed positions in space relative to each other.
A single crystal(mono-crystalline) is a material in which the crystal lattice of the entire sample is continuous and unbroken, and having long range of the order.
Apart from the single-crystalline in nature, silicon substrates must have a high degree of chemical purity, a high degree of crystalline perfection, and high structure uniformity.
In a single crystal, there is the minimum arrangement of atoms or molecules; for this reason, its responses to electrical and magnetic interactions occur without interference; this is reflected in sharper signals represented mainly by a Lorenzian and generally, when represented by Gaussian, it has maximum overall.
