Hello there! :)

I am currently working on the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (Horne & Östberg, 1976), but I found a problem when scoring comes.

Indeed, for some questions, participants are asked to report the time at which they would ideally get up or go to bed, and for each interval, a score is attributed... However, sometimes, participants choose an answer that straddles two intervals.

>> For example, for the two first questions:

1. Considering only your own "feeling best" rhythm, at what time would you get up if you were entirely free to plan your day?

and

2. Considering only your own "feeling best" rhythm, at what time would you go to bed if you were entirely free to plan your day?

>> if a participant answers:

1. 11:00 AM

and

2. 9:00 PM

>> then we will have two possibilities for the score:

1. 1 or 2?

and

2. 5 or 4?

And it is the same for question 10, and maybe questions 17 and 18.

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and has found a solution?

I saw that Terman M‚ Rifkin JB‚ Jacobs J‚ White TM (2001) created a revised version, where discrete item choices have been substituted for continuous graphic scales, but I wonder if other people have validated it and/or used it...

Thank you very much for your answers! :)
