To date, I have researched photocatalyst based materials, this was done under the UV or visible light irradiation. When I used a commercial lamp (they have red or blue-appeared color), I just wonder that how I can determine the mono or polychromatic type of those used light sources? What is the simple way to determine them?

the easiest way to check for monochromaticity or polychromaticity is to view the light source through a prism or diffraction grating. If you see a sharp image of the light source, it is monochromatic; if you see multiple sharp images, it is polychromatic with discrete wavelengths, and if you see a blurry spectrum, is is polychromatic with a continuum of wavelengths.

Try to get your hands on a spectrometer. Nowadays in many research environments a simple and relatively cheap USB-powered spectrometer is at hand. Ocean Optics and Avantes are broadly spread brands.
