I am trying to simulate a heterogeneous liquid mixture with single-site atoms (translational motion only) and multi-site rigid molecules (translational + rotational motion). The molecules also vary in mass and moment of inertia from species to species. Does anyone know how to calculate the initial magnitudes of the translational and rotational velocities in relation to the desired temperature?
I understand the widely-used MDS programs take care of this "under the hood", but I am interested to know what exactly the calculation is. I have found related texts, but they focus on uniform systems. Thank you in advance for any help.
