I am trying to model the impact of a spear into the soil in Abaqus. I modelled it as an axisymmetric model and used Drucker-Prager plasticity model for the soil. Every time I run the job, it aborts due to excessive element distortion.I tried ALE adaptive meshing but still, the error persists. For the interaction between spear and soil, I used surface to surface contact model. If there is any way to avoid this, please give me some advice.

No way to answer this without more information on the model, the mesh, the element type, the materials etc.
One critical thing to check may be hourglassing.
@Martin Baeker: Hello sir, I'm trying to model the landing of a rocket stage using the spears(attached to the stage) penetrating into the sand bed. But for now, I'm modelling just one spear with a mass of around 5000kg on top of it penetrating into the sand. The spear is of 0.2m in diameter with a conical tip(300 half angle) and the material is aluminium. It impacts the sand at a velocity of 10m/s and comes to rest. For the sand, I used Drucker-Prager plasticity model.
I modelled it as an axisymmetric and used CAX4R elements. For the interaction between them, I used master-slave contact property. The deformation is large due to the huge mass of the spear.
