We intend to explore predation rates on snakes by using clay models but "ordinary" plasticine melts when exposed to heat. Can anyone recommend a suitable brand of modelling clay that does not lose its shape when subjected to radiant heat and at the same time remains soft enough for predators to leave their beak and claw marks on? Many thanks in advance.
Fimo modeling clay should retain its shape in the heat and takes impressions well. Traditional clays and doughs (e.g.: flour/water/salt mixtures, Play-doh) would take nice impressions but would probably dry out too quickly. Carving foam models would work well, too, but would be more labor intensive.
Many thanks, Andra Doherty, we will definitely try Fimo. Sculpey III polymer clay is mentioned as a material of choice in some articles. We will test that as well.
