What would be the MMP grade if uvula is not seen, but soft palate alone is visible?
Scenario : The first year resident claimed it as MMP 4, & second year resident claimed it as MMP 3. Intraoperatively, it turned out to be unanticipated difficult airway, with CL grades 3b (epiglottis tip only visible).
3 If soft palate is visible I would grade as MMP 3. If only the hard palate is visible the MMP grade is 4. Regardless, in the case you describe I would provide a letter to the patient explaining the difficult laryngoscopy and the potential difficulty with endotracheal intubation. The patient may wish to wear a medic alert bracelet with this information.
Yes, if soft palate is visualized then Mallampati grade is 3. The MMP grade is a guide, not an absolute correlation to the laryngoscopic view.
If We able to see the soft palate, it comes under MMP grade 3. Only hard palte , then MMP 4. Usually 3&4 considered for Anticipated Difficult airway . So Two Anesthesiologist with Difficult airway management equipments should be there during Airway management
Grade II- portion of uvula is seen and grade III- base of uvula is seen, IV- only hard plate
