I cannot understand the meaning of minor workgroup. However, the fishing community includes boat owners (Sammadi- Tamil), skippers, active fishers, crews or labours, middle man (dominant role in fisheries), auctioneer, Fishmarket salesmen and saleswomen: Wholesale and Retail market, some of them working in the fish market ( to remove the gut and head of fish and shells of crustacean), collectors (for seafood company), fish processors, etc. Apart from these, a few of the fishers engage in subsistence fishing activity (by using castanet and handline fishing operation without any fishing crafts) and tourism (coral watching, boat riding, etc). Most of the workers or labours in the net mending factory, ice factory, boatyard and seafood companies are from the fishing community.

They are all members of the fishing community. But their occupation, income, working time and place and lifestyle differ from each others.

I think that, I've attained the objective of having this discussion, and I appreciate that the scholars have reached this point. This is exactly what we think should happen, as there shouldn't be a discrimination among work-groups in the fisheries sector (in the fishing community), and if we take the whole system into consideration, there are no such things called "major" or "minor". Do you know, however, the situation is not that positive as I thought, and there are different categories of work group with people those who are not directly involved in active fishing, fish processing, most of the logistics and selling. There are workers who are actually considered by the community members as "minor contributors", and this thought exists withing the society. I've observed this and have studied this in many coastal regions in Sri Lanka.
