Methods for detecting slag from melt in EAF furnaces in the steel industry?

I'm searching for methods to detect "slag" and melting material in EAF furnaces during the melting process in the steel industry. Analytical and laboratory methods aside, Can we detect slag by a sensor like a NIR sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, or a moisture sensor?
