As you experience as editor, one of the most difficult steps during editorial process for journals is to find enough referees. In addition to the fact that intense referee requests can over occupy the researchers, the thought that it is better to devote the time reserved for refereeing to research and training may also play a role in this. What are the effective methods and approaches you use in assigning referees to the manuscript as editor? Furthermore, what are the criteria you take into account in requests for refereeing as referee?
Mustafa Ceylan , I am not a journal editor, but in my opinion, editors prefer to contact reviewers who have publications in the field of the manuscript. I believe RG is currently an important platform where some editors can refer to in choosing reviewers. Happy new year!

Thank you for the comment. In fact, the problem is that the number of journals is increasing, leading to an increase in referee requests. My purpose in initiating this topic is discuss how can the most accurate and reviewer-friendly approach be. The criteria for accept or turn down the requests as a referee can also enrich this discussion.
Dear Mustafa Ceylan this is certainly an important question. I think it is not a very difficult problem for established, high-ranked journals. All authors normally log in to the online submission submission of these journals. When they register, they are asked to provide their areas of expertise as reviewers. This way the journals establish large databases of potential reviewers. For predatory journals the situation is much easier as they have no peer-review process.
