I was working on phytochemical extraction and wanted to make 70% methanol solvent. As soon as I mixed distilled water with lab-grade methanol, it turned cloudy. Is it normal?
I came across a car workshop page that shared that cloudy methanol+water mix means that menthanol is contaminated with oils ot hydrocarbons. What do you think?
Methanol and water produce a clear colorless solution. If there were small bubbles when you mixed them it might be cloudy for a few moments while the bubbles leave the solution. If it is cloudy for longer than that there is a water insoluble contaminant.

One other point. I said, "water insoluble contaminant", it could instead be a methanol insoluble contaminant. At any rate something has gone from completely soluble in the one component to less soluble in the mixture.
