My professor want me to transfer the Samarium oxide-Sm2O3 into the pores of mesoporous silica for radioactive in cancer treatment. Firstly, I need to create a dispersion of Sm2O3 into organic phase (such as chloroform) and use CTAB to make the oil/water in aqueous phase-making the hydrolysis and condensation of TEOS outside the Sm2O3, as a result, Sm2O3 will be into the pores of mesoporous silica. Could you help me, oleic acid will help me to disperse the Sm2O3 into the chloroform ? I really need your help and thank you so much ?
Trying to create a dispersion of Sm2O3 and then getting those particles into pores of another material is not viable in my view. The only dispersing agent is energy - no 'magic' chemical can make an agglomerate smaller. You should not be using chloroform either - Montreal Protocol. Better to convert the Sm2O3 to a soluble salt that can be used to impregnate the dried silica (knowing what the pore volume is in say mL/g) and then roast to produce the Sm2O3 in the pores of the silica. It may be that the acetate (water soluble) or probably better still the acetylacetonate (soluble in organics) could be utilized. The concentration of Sm in the solution that just saturates the pores (you know how to carry out a pore volume determination, I assume?) will dictate the Sm loading in the support silica.
