When the Vs is < 2*Vc , which is the case most of the times, the code require that Smax be calculated as the lesser of three values, one of them is mostly controlling that is d/2.

The code then says this requirement is not applicable in beams with depth less than or equal 25 cm

In ripped slabs usually there are three slab thicknesses:

25 cm (18 cm block + 7 cm flange)

32 cm (24 cm block + 8 cm flange)

37 cm (28 cm block + 9 cm flange)

* Note other thickness can be used with special order of the hollow block height)

My concern is that for 32 cm ripped slabs, the beams also have

h = 32 cm with d ~ 28 cm, and according to the code, Smax =28/2.

My personal opinion is that there is not much different between 25 cm & 32 cm thick beams.

Personally, when no stirrups are needed at the critical section and 20 cm spacing is enough, I would go with 20 cm as the max spacing

what do you folks think?
