I am currently developing a maxent model and have two questions.
1) I have 12.000 cells, so I think 10.000 background points would be too large due to overfitting. However, I am not sure which number is sufficient (6.000?).
2) When I randomly create points, there are in some grid cells more than one background. Is that fine or do I have to filter my background points, so there is always just one background point per grid cell?

Hi Joshua A. Spiers , thanks fir your answer. The SDMtoolbox sounds very promising. However, I am using Maxent in R and QGIS, so sadly I cannot use the SDMtoolbox. I already red the Merow et al. paper, but that did not answer my question if it is fine to have more than one background point per grid cell. What is your opinion in that question?
I dont think maxent will allow more than background point per cell.
Don't overthink it, it's not going to have as big of an impact as you are think it will.
In my opinion if unsure on a choice, stick to the default.
