My student's MS thesis was published; I planned to submit a separate paper to a scientific journal using some of the data along with other unpublished data. Is this allowed? The thesis data would be beneficial to scientists in my field who may not be able to access the thesis itself. Thanks in advance!

Usually, a masters thesis is not regarded as a publication, therefore the data and texts can be re-used in papers. However, some journals may have other opinions on this. It may be better to contact the editor of the journal in advance, asking this question.

It might be different nowadays with the ease of digital versions (pdf) and online presence of research but ‘in the old days’ data of a master thesis were used in (final) papers in journals without any problem.

(Figure 4-6 was the excellent work of my master student at the time and present in his master thesis)So, I think it is no problem. Even stronger this is the reward for master students performing an excellent job that some of their data are used in manuscripts that are submitted to a nice journal.
