Hi all!

I am conducting my masters thesis on the effects of self-esteem on the potential relationship between death anxiety and levels of generalised anxiety. Of note, I am controlling for levels of depression, age, religious adherence and presence of terminal illness. As I haven't been taught moderated multiple regression, I thought this the best place to ask - I am currently running analyses using the PROCESS macro, but am unaware if I am doing this correctly. Thus far, I am putting in my continuous DV (levels of anxiety), my continuous IV (death anxiety), my moderator (self-esteem) and then putting in my covariates depression (continuous), age (nominal with 4 categories), religiosity (nominal with 3 categories) and presence of terminal illness (nominal with 3 categories).

Thus far, I have gathered that I need to dummy code the nominal variables. For example: the variable age has young = 1, middle = 2, older = 3 and prefer not to answer = 4. This would then be coded to middle = 1 and other = 0, older = 1 and other = 0 and prefer not to answer = 1 and other = 0. I would then have to put in all dummy variables to get a proper model. However, with the prefer not to answer, do I need to code that? Or should I remove cases that have preferred not to divulge?

I am desperately in need of a step-by-step guide to all of the steps as it seems most guides are either not using covariates or are using covariates that are continuous.

Thank you guys so much!!
