When you are dealing with multiple and diverse research projects with different deadlines, progress reports and submission of grants and manuscripts, it is not easy to optimize your schedule to meet all the requirements. Any thoughts or suggestions?
It is as if your question draws my profile. I simply never ever worked on a single project. How do I manage? I don't know. But I do manage. While working on a project, I might come across a publication or have an inspirational idea, which makes me shift interest and start taking advantage and developing my thoughts in another project and direction. These shifts do not make me tired as when I deal with a single project all the time. They rejuvenate my energy. Another motivation for opening more than one project (don't laugh: I have about 40 open projects, with none finalized) is to quit a project and mark a time for contemplation of the rationale for conducting one of the projects. It makes me mark a certain distance to better think about whether what I was doing would make sense to others. Of course, such a way of doing research will suffer a little bit when deadlines are tight. But I know how to meet my deadlines.
I do share several points with you however, your last statement is interesting "I know how to meet my deadlines". Do you recommend specific mechanism to meet all the deadlines?
