I have 20 years continuous data on beech seed production. Even though my data are spatially limited to one region, I'm observing that seed production in beech is increasing in frequency and size over the last few years. In particular, 2009, 2011 and 2013 were characterized by heavy seed production. Does anyone has similar data to verify this occurrence - beech seed production could be synchronous over large areas
I need to check some reports, but as I remember, in Serbia, last masting year with heavy beechnut production was 2004.

we miss quantitative data about 2013 seed production in the NW Alps,
as it started to snow since the end of october. However, people working in plant nurseries of the Piemonte Region says that is a half masting here.
I personally observed a good seed crop troughout Western Alps up to Zurich.
Finally, I have just discrete data (class 1-4) about mast years in North Italy since 1990, provided by CFS, and we are joining a dataset with some colleagues in Germany. If you like we could discuss it by phone.

A good seed crop of Tilia cordata is a good predictor for winter breeding in bank vole and HFRS epidemics in human.
