Hi all,
I want to make 15 liter viscoelastic fluid to use in PIV tests of flow around a cylinder located in a channel.
At first, I wanted to make Boger fluid with PAAM (Mw=20e6 or Mw=5e6 g/mol) solved in a Glycerin (80%) and water (20%) solution. But unfortunately hotplate cannot circulate more than 0.5 liter and making 15 liter fluid will be very time-consuming!
Now I want to know how to make viscoelastic fluid to see the difference of flow over a cylinder (located in a channel) between that viscoelastic fluid and a Newtonian fluid these conditions:
1- It should be transparent.
2- Making it will not give me long time.
3- It's material (specially polymer) can be found easily. I'd rather to use existing polymer (mentioned above).
A Queastion:
We know that a viscoelastic fluid has both elastic and shear-thinning behaviors, while a Boger fluid just has the elastic behavior. In your idea, is there any problem to use viscoelastic fluid instead of Boger fluid in an experiment and simulation of that in numerical simulation?
