This would be useful for estimating population size, density, mortality and other population parameters for microlepidoptera.
So far, there do not seem to be any documented attempts to mark and recapture micro Leps, but given the increasing development of micro technology, the day is probably not far away! The point, naturally, would be the questions we would be addressing by this means: dispersal rates, ranges, longevity... secondly, the methodology. If it is intended to mark and recapture the insects locally, then a dab of paint would do, but if others are intended to capture the marked individuals, data would have to be carried by the moth and so far, only the secret services have availed themselves of the use of microdots for such purposes!
