Hi, I am doing CPW fed slot-bowtie antenna simulation by HFSS.
I have read the HFSSv10 manual but I still have some questions:
(1) for lumped excitation, do we need to remove the metal part right under the lumped port? In the manual, there is no such a step. But I get very small Z11 value and a weird trend if I don't remove it.
(2) I think lumped port should be connected with two separate metal pieces. But in the CPW fed Slot-antenna design, I don't see how could I make it. (only one big metal plane for slot-antenna)

If your design allows, extend your two sub-grounds and connect them at the back. Then you can use a horizontal lumped port extending between sub-grounds and major line. A picture is attached for your convenience.
Thank you for your reply! But the whole structure is like the attached picture, center line will eventually connect to ground metal (it is the same metal piece). Is it okay?
You should not connect the feed line to the ground plane. At some point near the bottom of the diagram, or even further down, you should stop the feed line, and close off the ground plane round it, leaving a small gap so the end of the feed-line doesn't touch the ground plane. Feed the antenna across this gap. This will send the wave up the feed-line to the antenna, which is how it will be fed in practice.
If you have shorted the feed-line to the ground plane you have created a shorted tuning stub in parallel with your antenna which will have a random effect on the match. I am not sure where you have been feeding the antenna!

Hi, Malcolm, are you saying that I should remove a metal region (so there is a gap), and then draw lumped port on it??

As Malcolm suggested, you can not short circuit the signal line to the ground-plane and must leave a gap between them where exactly the lumped port sits. A picture is attached for your convenience.
Thank you, but doe it mean the HFSS v10 example is not correct? Because the design in the tutorial doesn't has this gap.
